whenever I make banana chips , I dont feel like throwing away the fresh green plantain peel / kaayatholi .Every part of the plantain tree is useul. You can make a tasty thoran with this green plantain peel along with red or green gram ( Vanpayar / cherupayar).
Ingredients:
Raw Plantain peel chopped finely - 1cup
green gram (cooked ) - 1/2 cup
green chilly -1
small onion - 2
Add salt and turmeric powder.cover and cook on a low fire.(sprinkle some water if needed )
Add the cooked green gram ,coconut mixture and red chily powder one by one and stir well.
Cook for 2-3 minutes till dry.
Serve hot with rice and curry.

turmeric powder -1/4tsp
chilly powder -1/4tsp
salt to taste.
seasoning:
mustard -1/4 tsp
urad dal -1/4 tsp
dry red chilly
oil 1 tbsp
curry leaves few
Method :
Take water in a vessel and keep the chopped plantain peel in it.
Crush coconut along with onions and green chilly.
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard , urad dal and when it splutter , add red chilly and curry leaves.
Drain and squueze out the water from the chopped plantain peel and add them to the pan .Add salt and turmeric powder.cover and cook on a low fire.(sprinkle some water if needed )
Add the cooked green gram ,coconut mixture and red chily powder one by one and stir well.
Cook for 2-3 minutes till dry.
Serve hot with rice and curry.
oh..this one is interesting...even the peel can be used to make a lovely dish ..
